Sophie, I loved reading this!! Not only am I so excited that you are building this beautiful food forest, but that you are doing exactly what lines up with what you are passionate about. For me, I talk a lot about balance and not having rigid structures when it comes to health & wellness. While I would love to say I am able to do that all the time, I don’t. Sometimes I struggle with trying to do everything perfectly. Sometimes I push myself to go hard in the gym when I maybe could use a bit more rest. I’m glad to hear you are learning and growing, that’s my goal every day too. If we continue to focus on what we know to be good and true, over time, that will take over our lives like wildflowers in a field.
P.S. I’m so excited to see photos of all of this. I’ve been sharing the growth of my garden lately and it is so much fun to watch something bloom :)
Thank you so much for the kind words, Grace! Glad you're excited to see photos--you've got me even more excited to watch this project grow! Also, good luck with your garden too :)
This is the first time I've heard of a "food forest" and I also want one! My mom and I are trying to make a "garden" of sorts with raised cedar beds and veggies. We also have a tea plant right outside our door hoping to grow our own tea.
I agree with your idea of producing offline. I often find myself living through my screen - if not writing myself, reading other work, replying to emails...and it's gotten to be too much. So offline, I make time to water the plants, get outside and ride my bike, or organize my space. It's tough (my attention span all too easily gets hooked on the internet) but it's been worth it.
I'm so glad you're taking the time to move some of your work/time/life outside, Christie! At least for me, it's always wear I feel the happiest and most content. So cool you are hoping to grow your own tea, and good luck with your garden 🤎
Oh I hear you Sophie! It sounds like you're really enjoying the process of your envisioning coming to life (literally!).
Being outside, feeling connected to nature, gifting your garden your labor and resources, it will reward you soon enough, no doubt about that. It's a way of being we forget while living in the modern world, but isn't it exactly what we're actually meant to do?
I love what you are doing Sophie. I look forward to watching the progress. And Yes!
reconnecting with nature, and/or with our creative side is so important and is real life. We have become so reliant of technology that the real things that are important get thrown to the sidelines. I do enjoy getting outside in the garden, mowing the lawn. That is the one thing I miss the most when we moved into a condo (short term) but I do get my fix when I can get back to my house and yard. But instead since I can't get hand dirty in the soil, I am growing my creative side by learning to crochet.
It's the first time I hear this concept of "food forest" and I'm sold. I want to build one, too! Adding this to my bucket list. What a dream! It's so true, that's where REAL life happens, outside, not inside, in front of the computer. Thank you for writing this, Sophie!
This looks divine!!! I can't wait to follow the food forest journey! Then please come to my backyard and help me do the same :)
To your question, YES I've felt this before (and am feeling a version of it now). I think we all need to give ourselves permission to take breaks and realize it's taking breaks that enables us to show up and keep giving from a place of creativity and love vs. burnout.
Sophie, I am so excited to watch your garden grow! Your question made me pause and take a breath, which is probably exactly what I needed right now! I think we all feel this push and pull between doing and being. I'm learning that presence IS productive, just in a different way. When I'm truly present with my family, my food, my body - that's when the real nourishment happens. The world will always demand more productivity from us, but only WE can choose to be present🧡

Yes! I couldn't agree more--this is what we are actually meant to do! Thank you for the kind words, Sanne 💗

Thank you so much, Danni! I love that you're tapping into your creative side even when your environment looks a little different right now :)

I also just heard about it recently...and I was hooked! You should go for it--it sure is rewarding! I'm glad you enjoyed this article, Karina :)
